takes the protection of your personal data very seriously. We want you to know when we collect which data and how we use it. We have taken technical and organisational measures to ensure that the data protection regulations are observed both by us and by external service providers. As we continue to develop our websites and implement new technologies to improve our service to you, changes to this privacy statement may also become necessary. We therefore recommend that you re-read this data protection statement from time to time.

Securing data transmission
The user's personal data is transmitted to the provider's server using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) security technology.

Access to the website
You can visit our website without any personal information being provided by you as a user. Every access to the website of the World Cultural Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte - European Centre for Art and Industrial Heritage - is stored in a log file. The following data are stored in the log file for a maximum of 1 year. Access data includes:

  • Name of the accessed website,
  • File, date and time of retrieval,
  • the amount of data transferred,
  • Browser type and version,
  • Referrer URL (the previously visited page),
  • IP address and
  • the requesting provider.

The stored data will only be evaluated for the optimization of the Internet offer. However, we reserve the right to check the log data subsequently if there is a justified suspicion of illegal use based on concrete evidence.

Handling of personal data
Personal data is information that can be used to identify a person, i.e. information that can be traced back to a person. This includes your name, e-mail address or telephone number. The Völklinger Hütte World Cultural Heritage Site only collects, uses and passes on personal data if this is permitted by law or if the user consents to the data collection.

Protection of minors
Persons under the age of 18 should not transmit any personal data to us without the consent of their parents or legal guardians. We do not request personal data from children and young people. We do not knowingly collect such data and do not pass it on to third parties.

Contacting
When contacting the provider (for example via contact form or e-mail), the user's details are stored for the purpose of processing the enquiry and in the event that follow-up questions arise.

Newsletter
With the newsletter we inform you about us and our offers.

If you would like to receive the newsletter, we require a valid email address, title and name as well as information that allows us to verify that you are the owner of the specified email address and that you agree to receive the newsletter: double opt-in procedure. These data will only be used for sending the newsletter and will not be passed on to third parties.

When you register for the newsletter, we save your IP address and the date of registration. This storage serves solely as proof in the event that a third party misuses an e-mail address and registers for receiving the newsletter without the knowledge of the authorised party.

You can revoke your consent to the storage of the data, the e-mail address and its use for sending the newsletter at any time. The revocation can take place via a link in the newsletters themselves, in the registration area of the newsletter or by communication to the contact possibilities below.

We have commissioned the provider Sendinblue to send our newsletter / email invitations and have concluded an order processing contract with this third-party provider, which ensures that the data collected via Sendinblue is processed exclusively in accordance with our instructions and in compliance with the GDPR.

When ordering information material and sending invitations to events of the World Cultural Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte, we only use the personal information you provide within the World Cultural Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte and the companies commissioned with the dispatch.

Disclosure of personal data to third parties
Data recorded when accessing the website of the World Cultural Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte will only be transmitted to third parties if we are legally or by court order obliged to do so or if disclosure is necessary in the event of attacks on the Internet infrastructure of the World Cultural Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte for legal or criminal prosecution. They are not passed on for other non-commercial or commercial purposes.

Duration for which the personal data is stored
The criterion for the duration of the storage of personal data is the respective legal retention period. After the expiry of this period, the corresponding data will be routinely deleted, provided that it is no longer necessary for the fulfilment or initiation of the contract.

Integration of third-party services and content
Contents of third parties will be integrated within our online offer. This always presupposes that the providers of this content (hereinafter referred to as "third party providers") are aware of the IP address of the users. Because without the IP address, they could not send the content to the browser of the respective user. We make every effort to use only those contents whose respective providers use the IP address only for the delivery of the contents. However, we have no influence on this if the third party providers store the IP address, e.g. for statistical purposes. As far as we know, we inform the users about this.

Cookies
The pages of our online shop use a cookie that is valid for the duration of your visit to the website. Most browsers are set to automatically accept cookies. However, you can deactivate the storage of cookies or set your browser so that cookies are only stored for the duration of the respective connection to the Internet.

Videos
We have integrated videos on our website. The video services are provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (YouTube videos) and Vimeo.com Inc, New York 10011, USA (Vimeo videos). The videos are preceded by a window so that the videos are only displayed when you actively click on them. By clicking on the button, you consent to the respective service provider setting cookies on the end device you are using, which may also be used to analyse usage behaviour for market research and marketing purposes, as well as collecting and processing further data if necessary. The legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a DSGVO. A transfer of data to the USA cannot be ruled out. You can find more details on the use of cookies by Youtube in Google's cookie policy at https://policies.google.com/technologies/types?hl=de. Further information on this can also be found at http://www.youtube.com/t/privacy_guidelines and under the data protection provisions published by YouTube, which can be accessed at https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=de/. These provide information on the collection of data. These provide information on the collection, processing and use of personal data by Google. For Vimeo, you can find this information at https://vimeo.com/privacy.

Link to Google Maps
This website uses Google Maps to display interactive maps and to create directions. Google Maps is a mapping service provided by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, California 94043, USA. By using Google Maps, information about the use of this website, including your IP address and the (start) address entered as part of the route planner function, may be transmitted to Google in the USA. When you click on the link to Google Maps, your browser establishes a direct connection with Google's servers. The map content is transmitted by Google directly to your browser, so we have no influence on the scope of the data collected and further processed by Google in this way. Information on the scope of data processing by Google can be found at https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=de.

Analysis of the websites
In order to optimise the contents and offers of our web pages as well as to collect statistical evaluations, various technical programmes are used which record data on the behaviour of the user of the web pages, also in anonymised form. For this purpose, for example, data on click behaviour, duration of visits, system settings and the origin of users are collected by the use of analysis software cookies in the form of text files. Cookies are stored on your computer for these analyses. This collected data may be stored on the servers of the operators of the analysis tools. The collected data is not used to personally identify the user and is not merged with other personal data of the user.

You can prevent the installation of cookies by setting your browser accordingly. However, we would like to point out that in this case you may not be able to use all the functions of this website to their full extent. In the following section, we provide a detailed description of the analysis tools we use.

The following analysis tools are used on our websites for this purpose:

Website Analysis with Matomo
This website uses the open source web analytics service Matomo. Matomo uses technologies that enable the cross-page recognition of the user to analyse user behaviour (e.g. cookies or device fingerprinting). The information collected by Matomo about the use of this website is stored on our server. The IP address is anonymised before storage.

With the help of Matomo, we are able to collect and analyse data about the use of our website by website visitors. This enables us to find out, among other things, when which page views were made and from which region they come. We also collect various log files (e.g. IP address, referrer, browsers and operating systems used) and can measure whether our website visitors perform certain actions (e.g. clicks, purchases, etc.).

The use of this analysis tool is based on Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the anonymised analysis of user behaviour in order to optimise both its website and its advertising. If a corresponding consent has been requested (e.g. consent to the storage of cookies), the processing is carried out exclusively on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a DSGVO; the consent can be revoked at any time.

IP anonymisation
We use IP anonymisation for the analysis with Matomo. In this case, your IP address is shortened before analysis so that it can no longer be clearly assigned to you.

Hosting
We use the externally hosted Matomo Cloud with the following third-party provider:

ePrivacy Holding GmbH
Große Bleichen 21
20354 Hamburg

Conclusion of an order processing contract
We have concluded an order processing contract with these third-party providers, which ensures that the data collected with Matomo is processed exclusively in accordance with our instructions and in compliance with the DSGVO.

The rights of the user
The user has the right to receive information free of charge upon request as to whether and which personal data is stored.
The user has the right to have his data deleted if they may no longer be stored.
If it turns out that the data stored about the user is incorrect, the user has a right to have it corrected.
The user has the right to receive the personal data concerning you, which was created by the user, in a structured, current and machine-readable format and to transmit it to third parties.
Every user has the right to object to the processing of his personal data at any time. The World Cultural Heritage Site of the Völklingen Ironworks no longer processes personal data in the event of an objection, unless the processing serves to assert, exercise or defend legal claims.
